Chat
A private one-to-one conversation with an agent, outside any issue — fully sandboxed.
Chat is a one-to-one conversation between you and an agent, stepping outside the issue board. The agent sees no issues and cannot change any issue, and the entire conversation is fully private — nobody else in the workspace, including admins, can see it. Use it to discuss an approach, brainstorm, or ask a question that doesn't belong to any issue.
Why not just @-mention the agent?
An @-mention pulls the agent into an issue's context — it reads the issue and every comment, and it can change the issue. Chat flips this: it pulls you out of the issue. The agent only sees this one conversation and has no entry point to any issue.
Rules of thumb:
- Feedback grounded in a specific issue →
@-mention it (or assign the issue) - A discussion unrelated to any issue, or one you want to stay private → Chat
Start a conversation
Open Chat from the sidebar, pick an agent, and start talking. It feels like any messaging app: you send a message, the agent replies. Each message triggers a run in the background, so replies may take a few seconds.
What an agent can and cannot do in chat
Conversations run in a fully sandboxed mode.
Can do:
- Answer questions and discuss in the current conversation
- Use its configured skills and MCP tools
- Read and write files in its own working directory
Cannot do:
- See any issue — the conversation carries no issue context
- Change any issue — without issue context, writes are blocked
- See other conversations — each one is fully isolated
@-mention anyone — chat is private; there's no path to notify others
Archiving a conversation
Conversations can be archived from the list or the detail page. The conversation disappears from the active list (still readable under "Archived"), and history is preserved — nothing is deleted.
There is no "restore" button. An archived conversation can't be moved back to active. To continue the thread, start a new conversation.
